I hate about pages. But I suppose I better put something here.
What might someone reading my blog want to know about me? Maybe something about my photographic history and inclinations…
I was interested in landscape photography from childhood and finally my parents caved in and bought me an SLR at 21. I spent a few years with that camera chasing the golden, long shadow, contre jour lighting on the gorgeous landscapes of Scotland but mostly failed miserably. I did have fun developing my own slides though. A couple of years ago I went digital and somehow an obsession crept over me. I also developed a taste for botanical macros, which I shot using the 50mm f1.8 and a set of extension tubes until I upgraded to the Canon 100mm f2.8. Those are still my two favourite lenses, apart from a lingering dalliance with a holga lens adapted to fit the 350D body by Randy at Holgamods.com, which seems to have a thing for bad 70′s architecture.
I started this blog after being frustrated by a lack of discussion on forums about the thinking behind photography, actually paying attention to what you’re doing and why, and what can be gained from it apart from something to hang on your wall, or a bag full of expensive kit to show off to your friends. I’m very interested in the process of photography, both the part where you go out and click the shutter button and then, when you take those raw materials and make them into a final print. I would love to get into alternative printing to a greater extent but so far, I’ve only managed to do a bit with a cheap inkjet and some watercolour paper, as successful as that actually was.
It’s a sleepy little blog, because I only post when I have something to say. Depending on my mood and other factors such as real life, that can be a few times a week or once every couple of months. I’d hate to be predictable…
